Liverpool defeats Bournemouth thanks to a brace from Mohamed Salah
Liverpool moved up to the top of the English Premier League rankings by nine points.
After defeating Bournemouth 2-0 on Saturday, Mohamed Salah scored twice to give Liverpool a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League. On yet another momentous day in the Reds' quest for a record-tying 20th English Premier League championship, Salah's double moved him above Frank Lampard to become the sixth-highest goal scorer in Premier League history with 178 goals.
Earlier in the season, Bournemouth had defeated Manchester City and Arsenal at home and had not lost in 12 games in all competitions. Marcus Tavernier and Antoine Semenyo struck the woodwork either side of halftime, and the Cherries might lament that they were unable to prolong that run. After halftime, Bournemouth made two desperate attempts to equalize, but the in-form Justin Kluivert missed both of them and Tavernier's goal went off the post.
