Everton began with a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa
David Moyes oversaw the first match of his second spell in charge of Everton, but he could not inspire a victory against Aston Villa.
David Moyes' second term at Everton started with a 1-0 loss against Aston Villa thanks to a goal from Ollie Watkins in the second half. This week, just under 12 years after Sean Dyche's excellent first stint ended when he left for Manchester United, the Scotsman made his comeback to Goodison Park. Watkins gave Villa all three points early in the second half, therefore unlike his first stint, he was unable to start his second with a win.
The England international ended Unai Emery's team's record of five straight away league losses after racing onto Morgan Rogers' throughball and beating Jordan Pickford. Villa managed to move up to seventh position and within three points of the top four when Dominic Calvert-Lewin wasted a great chance to equalise by shooting over in stoppage time. Everton, however, is still in 16th place and only one point above the relegation zone.
