Celta Vigo pushes for Europe with another big win
Celta Vigo won at home against Leganes.
With a home victory against struggling Leganes, Celta Vigo strengthened their late-season quest for a top-seven finish; the visitors are still in danger, along with Valencia and Alaves. Since seventh place is thought to be sufficient for a position in Europe the next season, Celta's recent success may come at a perfect moment as they tie on points with Rayo Vallecano in the standings.
After winning three straight at home, the Galicians finished the weekend undefeated in their past five league games. Both teams played well in the first half, with Oscar Mingueza tying the score and Valentin Rosier giving Leganes a 1-0 lead before the interval. But in a wild finish to the first half, when Celta Vigo was controversially denied a penalty, Alfonso Gonzalez took advantage of his opportunity to score the game-winning goal.
