Chelsea have opened talks to sign Rangers full-back Jefte
Chelsea have opened talks to sign Rangers full-back Jefte, according to Central Fluminense.
Although no deal has been struck, the Brazilian newspaper [27 January] claims that the Premier League team is interested in the 21-year-old Brazilian. It is thought that the Blues are prepared to reopen talks with the Gers when the summer transfer market opens if a deal cannot be agreed by February 3rd. Given that Jefte has just recently arrived at Ibrox and that teammate left-back Ridvan Yilmaz is being strongly linked to a move to Turkey, it seems unlikely that a deal will be reached before the winter transfer window closes.
This season, Philippe Clement has already lost a number of important defenders, including Neraysho Kasanwirjo, John Souttar, Dujon Sterling, James Tavernier, and Leon Balogun. Rafael Fernandes of Lille has joined the team on a six-month loan, although the Gers' 2024–2025 campaign may suffer if Jefte leaves so close to the end of the transfer season.
