Liverpool lost 3-2 to PSV Eindhoven
Liverpool ended the league phase of the Champions League at the very top despite losing their perfect record against PSV on Wednesday.
After losing 3-2 to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, Liverpool lost their pristine record in the Champions League, but they still ended first in the standings. Barcelona's draw with Atalanta saw the Reds conclude the season as the competition's top seed, even though Arne Slot's team knew that a point would be sufficient to finish at the top.
Federico Chiesa was taken down inside the box by Joey Veerman, and Cody Gakpo, who had just returned to PSV, netted a penalties to give a much-improved Liverpool squad the lead in the 28th minute. However, after Ricardo Pepi's brilliant build-up, Johan Bakayoko struck the bottom left-hand corner to give the Eredivisie leaders a remarkable response. Liverpool, however, got themselves back in front when Chiesa's shot was parried into the path of Harvey Elliott, who finished past Walter Benitez for his second Champions League goal in as many games.
