Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of Punjab Kings for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Punjab Kings, in their quest for their maiden IPL trophy, made headlines by signing Iyer for a staggering INR 26.75 crore during the IPL auction, making him the second most expensive player in the league's history. The team’s aggressive bid underscored their determination to secure a proven leader, as Iyer had successfully led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title win last year. 

Following his decision to part ways with KKR and enter the auction, several franchises were involved in intense bidding wars, but Punjab Kings, armed with the largest purse, emerged victorious. The announcement of Iyer’s captaincy was made in grand style on the popular reality show Bigg Boss. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan unveiled the news in the presence of Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shashank Singh.
