According to reports, Newcastle United is one of three Premier League teams "leading the race" to recruit Jonathan David, a highly sought-after player from Lille.

Since moving from Belgian team Gent to Lille in the summer of 2020 for £22 million, the Canada international has established himself as one of the most reliable attackers in Ligue 1. In his debut season with the team, David played a key role in Les Dogues' unexpected championship success alongside current Magpies star Sven Botman. In 190 games across all competitions, David has scored 87 goals and provided 20 assists. Two years ago, he also contributed significantly to Canada's only previous World Cup qualifying campaign. His team lost to Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco in the group stage, and he was a starter in all three of their games.
