Valtteri Bottas’s future in Formula 1 appears uncertain
Valtteri Bottas is not guaranteed to stay on the Formula 1 grid next year with Audi having now 'finalised' their 2025 driver line-up, according to reports in Germany
Valtteri Bottas’s future in Formula 1 appears uncertain, with Audi reportedly finalizing its 2025 Sauber lineup without him. Despite his hopes for a contract renewal, the team seems to be moving in a new direction, aiming to pair Nico Hulkenberg with fresh talent. While Carlos Sainz was initially in Audi's sights, his decision to join Williams has left Audi exploring other options. This leaves Bottas and teammate Zhou Guanyu in a precarious position, with at least one expected to exit.
Contenders for the remaining Sauber seat include reserve driver Theo Pourchaire, former F1 driver Mick Schumacher, and F2 standout Gabriel Bortoleto. Reports indicate Audi may have already signed Bortoleto, who currently leads F2, with an announcement likely before the Las Vegas Grand Prix. McLaren, secure with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, appears willing to release Bortoleto for the opportunity.
