Lazio's undefeated league streak against Cagliari reached 20 games, the longest such stretch against any Serie A opponent, with to a goal and an assist from Mattia Zaccagni. From 1996 until 2005, Lazio had a 19-game winning streak against Inter Milan, which was their previous record.

Following strong play from Elseid Hysaj, Zaccagni gave the visitors the lead with a crisp goal in the 41st minute. Ten minutes into the second half, Roberto Piccoli, a striker on loan from Cagliari, tied the score with a header off the back post, but nine minutes later, Argentine striker Taty Castellanos gave Lazio the lead again. Lazio was two points above Juventus on the table. Cagliari remained fourth from bottom, one point above the relegation zone.
