Leverkusen beats Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-1
Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-1 on Saturday thanks to two goals from Florian Wirtz.
In their 3-1 victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday, Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen maintained their four-point advantage over leaders Bayern Munich thanks to two goals from Florian Wirtz. Earlier in the day, Bayern with a 3-2 victory against Wolfsburg, had gone seven points ahead, but Leverkusen was powerful and controlled, winning their 11th consecutive game across all competitions.
After Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka reclaimed the ball in midfield with thirty-two minutes remaining, Wirtz beat a defender and put the ball home comfortably. The 21-year-old Wirtz stepped up and scored after Leverkusen secured a penalty for handball halfway through the second half. Leverkusen's third goal was scored by Patrik Schick, who scored his 12th goal in his last eight league games after latching onto a Wirtz pass. In stoppage time, Tim Kliendienst of Gladbach scored a consolation goal.
