Bayer Leverkusen defeats Freiburg 5-1
Leverkusen closes the gap to Bayern Munich, and Patrik Schick scores four goals.
Patrik Schick scored four goals in a 5-1 victory over Freiburg on Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen reduced the distance on Bayern Munich at the top of the German Bundesliga to four points. Wirtz set up Schick, whose precise finish gave the game the quality boost it needed while the match was still tied in first-half stoppage time. When the Germany star hammered the ball into the roof of the net in the 51st minute, Wirtz's early penalty miss was already a faint memory.
Vincenzo Grifo guided into the bottom corner from the outside of the box as Freiburg capitalized on a wayward ball to score a goal out of nothing while the rain pelted Leverkusen. However, Leverkusen restored their two-goal lead when Schick headed in to make it 3-1 with another assist from Wirtz. Schick pulled up his hat-trick when Wirtz put another on a platter for him, before finishing the thrashing with his fourth goal, which was Leverkusen's fifth.
