Manchester United overcame Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in the Europa League on Thursday thanks to two goals from Rasmus Hojlund, who came off the bench. After catching Bruno Fernandes' assist off a free kick, the Denmark striker scored in the 88th minute to complete the victory and move United into the top eight of the rankings.
After goalkeeper Martin Jedlička diverted Amad Diallo's shot into his path for an easy finish, Hojlund equalised six minutes later after replacing Marcus Rashford in the 56th. In addition to scoring twice in United's 3-2 victory over Norwegian outfit Bodø/Glimt in the previous round, the 21-year-old Hojlund has five goals in his six games in the second division. After two consecutive defeats in the English Premier League—2-0 on the road against Arsenal and 3-2 at Old Trafford against Nottingham Forest—United appeared to be making little headway under new coach Ruben Amorim, finishing 13th and eight points outside the top four.
