With a last-minute deal, Aston Villa avoided a 10-point penalty

Aston Villa has disclosed the extent of their near miss with a Premier League debacle this summer.

Before Douglas Luiz's move, Aston Villa's head of football operations Damian Vidagany revealed how near the team was to breaking Premier League profit and sustainability regulations. Given the impending conclusion of the Premier League's fiscal year and the necessity to close a £25 million deficit, something had to be done. One of their star needed to be on his way out of the club.

In the end, Douglas Luiz was sold to Juventus for £42 million, a few hours before the June 30 deadline. It was so near to death. Additionally, it has perhaps spared them their season as well as a potential ten-point deduction. The responsibility of resolving the issue fell to Unai Emery's two recruiting mentors, Damian Vidagany, director of football operations, and sports director Monchi. Indeed, they were successful in saving Aston Villa’s current campaign.
