Newcastle United are working on the signing of William Gomes
Newcastle United are working on the signing of Brazilian wonderkid William Gomes from São Paulo as the club look to continue their youth recruitment drive.
After making the move from the academy to the first team in 2021, the 18-year-old winger has made 15 appearances and scored twice, which is obviously enough for the Magpies to notice.
Gomes is on our list of goals as we want to expand the already remarkable pool of young talent that has joined the team since the takeover three years ago, according to the Brazilian publication Global Esporte. As we seek to follow the signing of Georgian prospect Vakhtang Salia, there have apparently been informal conversations between the two clubs regarding a deal, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet. Gomes reportedly agreed to a new contract with the Brazilian team that included a £100 million release clause. High release clauses are typical for foreign talent, but it's safe to assume we won't be paying anything like that.
