Leverkusen crushes Frankfurt to stay on their title quest
Bayer Leverkusen put on a dominant display at the Waldstadion, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 to keep within eight points of Bayern Munich.
The match began with a lot of action, but as it progressed, Leverkusen took charge of the match, and it was only a matter of time until they took the lead. Granit Xhaka responded to a Frankfurt clearing by threading the ball through to Nathan Tella to score. Nordi Mukiele poked home to make it 2-0 shortly after a Leverkusen corner was sent in. Later, Patrik Schick made it 3-0 by converting a cutback from Alejandro Grimaldo.
Hugo Ekitiké provided Frankfurt with a lifeline going into the second half when goalie Mukiele sent the ball back to Lukas Hradeckly, who fluffed his lines. The game became out of reach for Frankfurt when a Jeremie Frimpong cross was not cleared well enough and ended up in the hands of Aleix Garcia, whose long-range attempt was parried into the net by Kevin Trapp to make it 4-1. Leverkusen converted the goal before Die Werkself could react.
