Everton defeated Liverpool 2-2
Liverpool fell agonisingly short of victory in the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, with James Tarkowski netting late on for Everton.
At Goodison Park, Everton defeated Liverpool 2-2 in the penultimate Merseyside derby, with James Tarkowski scoring an equaliser in the 98th minute to prevent the visitors from taking a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings.
The home team had taken the lead in the first half thanks to a creative set-piece from Beto, but goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah turned the tide of Tuesday's match. Salah pounced on a loose ball to give Liverpool the lead in the 73rd minute after Mac Allister headed a Salah cross into the bottom-left corner to tie the score. Deep into stoppage time, Arne Slot's Reds were dealt a shock setback just as they appeared to be getting farther away from championship rivals Arsenal.
