After playing for Toro Rosso for a complete season, Verstappen was promoted to the Red Bull senior squad in 2016, where he has been ever since.

Verstappen has teamed up with a number of drivers over his Formula One career, including Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez, and now Liam Lawson for 2025.  Given that Verstappen's past three Red Bull teammates were fired by the team due to subpar play, being teammates with him is often a kiss of doom. Verstappen has disclosed that, despite having the most difficult position in Formula One, one driver was a huge assistance to the Dutchman. When asked who his strongest teammate was by Blick, Verstappen revealed there was a clear winner. "Clearly Daniel Ricciardo, I was able to learn the most from him. I absorbed a lot and incorporated it into my experiences," Verstappen said without hesitation.
