Chelsea defender Renato Veiga has joined Juventus on loan
Chelsea defender Renato Veiga has joined Juventus on loan for the rest of the season.
Veiga, 21, has featured in 18 games since joining Chelsea from Basel for £11.8 million in the summer, although he has only started one Premier League game. Juventus has agreed to pay a £3.8 million loan fee and cover the Portugal international's salary. The agreement does not include a buyout option.
According to people close to the player, he had grown tired of playing left back and would much rather be utilised at centre back. As Veiga sought more playing time to remain in the Portugal squad, he was also linked to Borussia Dortmund of Germany. Last week, Veiga was pushed to remain by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who said, "If there is a player who just wants to play in one position, they're going to struggle." Juventus are fifth in Serie A and have secured at least a play-off spot in the Champions League.
