Antoine Griezmann, Julian Alvarez, and Conor Gallagher scored goals as Atletico Madrid easily defeated Valencia 3-0 at home on Sunday in La Liga. Before Atletico seized the lead in the 39th minute with a goal from new acquisition Gallagher, who latched on to a brilliant ball from Rodrigo De Paul that was slid through the legs of defender Cristhian Mosquera, Marcos Llorente and Samuel Lino came close in the first half.

Another summer addition to Diego Simeone's new team, Alexander Sorloth, also had a few strong opportunities, but goalie Giorgi Mamardashvili stopped them. Though Valencia put up a strong fight to draw even, and Javi Guerra's long-range attempt went wide, they were unable to stop Griezmann from scoring nine minutes after the half when Lino's header dropped into his path.
