Northern Ireland star Jamal Lewis accepts his Newcastle United career is over
After Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, approved Jamal Lewis' season-long loan to Sao Paulo, the player has opened up about his final conversations with the coach.
After four years in Tyneside, the Northern Ireland international departs after a disappointing £15 million deal from Norwich City. Lewis was signed by Watford after Liverpool beat him to the transfer, but he struggled to establish himself at St James' Park and suffered several setbacks. But Lewis and Howe concluded that his Toon career was ended as his contract at Newcastle expires. Lewis remarked, "I've spoken to the manager Eddie Howe, I'm in my last year and I've done a season-long loan, so that kind of has the writing on the wall there," in reflection on his last conversation with Howe. Lewis's salary of £40,000 per week have now been eliminated by Newcastle while he is working in South America.
