West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel retires from international cricket

"Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end," Shannon Gabriel said.

After 12 years of playing on the grandest platform in the sport, West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel revealed on Wednesday, August 28, that he was retiring from international cricket. After participating in 59 Tests, 25 ODIs, and two T20Is for the Caribbean team between 2012 and 2023, the 36-year-old made the decision.

Gabriel said thanks to God for giving him the chance to represent the West Indies abroad. He also expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, support staff, and administrators at Cricket West Indies for helping him along the way in his cricket career. Gabriel said that he will play cricket for club and franchise cricket as well as for his native Trinidad & Tobago. "Moving forward, my plan is to continue representing my country [Trinidad and Tobago], club, and franchise teams around the world with the same love and passion I have shown throughout my career," Gabriel said.
