Sanju Samson considers passing duties to Dhruv Jurel for IPL 2024
Sanju Samson, who was retained by RR for Rs 18 crore, has opened up on the prospect of playing as a fielder.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson may step away from his wicketkeeping duties in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Samson, retained by RR for ₹18 crore, has discussed sharing or handing over the responsibility to young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. The two have already conversed about this transition, especially after Jurel’s recent elevation as India’s second-choice Test wicketkeeper.
While Samson hinted that they might share wicketkeeping duties, the youngster could take on a larger role behind the stumps. Jurel, who made his Test debut earlier this year against England, displayed promising performances. However, with Rishabh Pant regaining full fitness, Jurel has since lost his spot. Both Pant and Jurel played the first Test against Australia in Perth, but Jurel was benched for subsequent matches in Adelaide and Brisbane. This IPL season could mark a significant phase in Jurel’s development.
