New Zealand dominated Pakistan with a 60-run win in the Champions Trophy opener
New Zealand maintained their recent dominance over hosts Pakistan with an emphatic 60-run win in the Champions Trophy opener.
In the Champions Trophy first match in Karachi on Wednesday, New Zealand easily defeated hosts Pakistan by 60 runs with to hundreds from Will Young and Tom Latham. After Pakistan sent the Black Caps in to bat, Young put together a crucial innings of 107 off 113 balls, while Latham, who was still undefeated at 118 off 104 balls, guided the team to 320 for five. New Zealand recovered from a difficult start thanks in large part to Glenn Phillips' 39-ball 61, which helped the Kiwis surpass the 300-run milestone.
The Pakistani top order, which included Mohammed Rizwan , Saud Shakeel , and Babar Azam (64 off 90), was a little too cautious in their strategy. The home team finished up with 260 all out in 47.2 overs, thus it eventually cost them. After missing a significant portion of the New Zealand innings owing to an injury scare, Fakhar Zaman batted at number four.
