Mohammed Shami made history
Jaker Ali became Mohammed Shami's 200th ODI scalp during Match No.2 of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Mohammed Shami, the star pacer for India, made history by being the quickest bowler to reach 200 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The accomplishment was made on Thursday in Dubai during India's match versus Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this achievement, Shami broke the long-standing record held by Ajit Agarkar. Shami beat Agarkar, who had done it in 133 innings, to reach the milestone in just his 103rd ODI innings. In addition, Shami is now the second-fastest bowler in the world to reach the 200-wicket mark in ODIs, after Mitchell Starc of Australia, who did it in 102 innings. In addition, the bowler surpassed Starc in the number of balls needed to take 200 wickets, breaking a major global record.
The Uttar Pradesh-born reached the milestone in just 5126 deliveries, outpacing Starc (5240 balls). With this achievement, Shami became only the eighth Indian to reach 200 ODI wickets, joining an elite list of Indian bowling greats.
