India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs

South Africa, who had also shifted to Dubai ahead of the knockouts, will now fly back to Lahore for the second semi-final

India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs and clinched the top spot in Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 thanks to five wickets from Varun Chakaravarthy.

They now know that New Zealand will play South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday, and Australia will play them in Dubai on Tuesday in the first semi-final. India bowled the Black Caps out for 205 when Varun dismissed opener Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry with scores of 5/42. They were chasing India's earlier total of 249, and looked like they might manage it with a solid 81 from Kane Williamson. Once he went for 81, though, stumped by Rahul and bowled by Axar, the tail crumbled, although captain Mitchell Santner made a strong 28 off 31 balls.
