In the second ODI, Duckett and Root assisted England to 304

In their attempt to save the series, England reached 304 in Sunday's second one-day international against India, thanks to half-centuries from opener Ben Duckett and Joe Root.

In a match at Cuttack where ace batsman Virat Kohli rejoined the squad after missing the hosts' first victory, England chose to bat first. The 50-over Champions Trophy event, which begins in Pakistan and Dubai on February 19, is preceded by the three-match ODI series. After Joe Root scored 69 and Ben Duckett hammered 65 off 56 balls, Liam Livingstone's 41 sent the total over 300. But England was bowled out in 49.5 overs after three run-outs in the last two overs.

From his ten overs, Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja recorded statistics of 3-35. The left-handed Duckett came out swinging, scoring 81 runs alongside Phil Salt, his opening partner, who scored 26. Duckett appeared to be in good form, but he was caught at long-on after attempting an audacious heave off left-arm spinner Jadeja, falling on his knees in dismay. To win the series, India has to score 305.
