Following India's late collapse, Australia wins the thriller to take the lead
India collapses after break giving Australia a 2-1 lead in the five match series.
In the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia defeated India by an astounding 184 runs on Monday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). A crucial final Test in Sydney was set up after India's spectacular late-session collapse gave the hosts a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
With openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant batting consistently through the second session, India were headed for a draw as they chased a difficult mark of 340, reaching 112-3 at tea. However, India suffered a catastrophic collapse after Pant's misguided effort, India ended up losing seven wickets for just 34 runs in 20.3 overs. With a tough 84 off 208 balls, Jaiswal stayed firm, but the pivotal moment came when Australian captain Pat Cummins dismissed him. Cummins, who was named Player of the Match, took the lead with 3-28, while Scott Boland came in second with 3-39. The home fans began to celebrate when Nathan Lyon trapped Mohammed Siraj lbw to secure the victory.
