Australia defeated England, setting a new record
Josh Inglis's explosive hundred helped Australia win a high-scoring Group B match by five wickets in Lahore, setting the stage for a spectacular chase against England in the Champions Trophy.
When they were sent to bat, opener Ben Duckett hammered 165 to lead England to 351-8, a record total in the tournament's history until Australia overtook it. Australia achieved the goal with 15 balls remaining with half-centuries from Alex Carey (69) and Matthew Short (63), while Josh Inglis, who was born in Leeds to English parents, pounded 120 not out off 86 balls.
Australia's shaky start was a far cry from how they finished the highest chase in a men's event at an ICC tournament. Mark Wood used a rocket at 150 km/h to eliminate Steve Smith, while Jofra Archer made a return catch to dismiss the dangerous Travis Head. Before England's spin combination of Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone retaliated, Australia was supported by Short and Marnus Labuschagne (47). Australia regained control of the see-saw match and never let it go again when Inglis and Carey, who Archer dropped on 49, raised 146 runs.
