After defeating Real Betis 2-0 at home for the third straight time, Real Sociedad got back to winning ways in La Liga, extending the visitors' losing league streak to four games. Even though they defeated Ajax in the middle of the week, La Real was determined to make amends at home following their derby loss to Athletic Club the previous Saturday.

And they got off to a fantastic start, leading before 15 minutes before a shot had even taken. Aihen Munoz was spotted on the left by Ander Barrenetxea, and Diego Llorente turned his low cross into his own goal after Betis keeper Rui Silva missed it. Referee Francisco Jose Hernández Maeso gave the home team a penalty for a foul by Romain Perraud on Mikel Oyarzabal just before the half after a protracted VAR check. The visitors' response was limited to a few innocuous attempts that went over the bar.
